1. What is VIES?

VIES stands for VAT Information Exchange System. It is an online service that allows you to verify the validity of a VAT number.

2. How to Use the VIES Connection within ABOSS

You can add, change, or check VAT numbers for your company contacts. Follow these steps:

  1. Open Contacts by clicking the icon in the menu on the left.

  2. Search for or add the company whose VAT number you want to check.

  3. Locate the VAT Number field. Enter the VAT number if the field is empty and click the search icon next to the number.

Two outcomes are possible:

The Number is Invalid or Cannot Be Found

  • Remember, the VIES check only works for European countries that participate in providing data to the VIES database.

The Number is Found and Valid

  • Ensure the company name displayed matches your client. This confirms the VAT number is correct.

If the number cannot be found, you can still leave the VAT number registered in your contact information.

3. Checking the VIES Database While Making an Invoice

You can also verify VAT numbers while creating invoices:

  1. Add a new invoice or open an existing one.

  2. Locate the VAT Number field. Enter the VAT number if it is not already filled out and click the search icon.

This function ensures you include the correct VAT number on your invoices, reducing errors and improving accuracy.
